GRATITUDE FOR GOOD
A Blog by Gratitude Alliance
By Rachel Crowther (Reposted from The Gracias Foundation, now called Global Gratitude Alliance) I imagine the wide-eyed stares and excitement of the kids at Jelly Tots Educare (Cape Town, South Africa) as the red-netted toy bin is placed in the courtyard and the lid opened. Tiny hands gripping brightly colored blocks, plastic people and animals that are exactly the right size to slot into cars and planes, parts of which are soon spread all over the floor. The frowns of concentration as towers and buildings are constructed, vehicles slotted together and LEGO passengers taken for a ride. The squeals of laughter and vroom vroom sounds as planes take off and cars are driven round the floor and along the wall by young mechanics. This is the wonder, fun and learning of DUPLO, the LEGO brand created for two to five-year-olds. Bored with the tower you made? Make another in a different shape with bricks arranged in a different pattern. Exchange parts with your friend. Construct in a group or work on your own project. A versatile toy that will provide a huge variety of play and learning opportunities for these kids. Huge thanks to Ashley Newell, from All Out Africa, who transported and delivered the donation from the LEGO Foundation to the Jelly Tots Educare on our behalf and took these beautiful photos of the children playing with, and proudly showing off their creations.
